Concerto Della Donna, under the direction of Iwan Edwards, is comprised of 17 young women, aged 17 to 31, who hail from across Canada. CDD members are university students, music teachers, community organizers, nurses, and jazz, folk, and classical musicians in their own right.
Drawing from these diverse backgrounds, CDD interprets a wide spectrum of traditional, classical and contemporary repertoire from both secular and liturgical sources, including madrigals, motets, Romantic lieder, spirituals, avantgarde works. These singers present pieces from all over the world, in numerous languages, featuring pieces by women composers and placing a particular emphasis on Canadian compositions. The ensemble's goal is to produce vibrant performances of both serious and light-hearted repertoire, while demonstrating the strength and beauty of young women’s voices through technical precision and emotional depth.
