"The Kammerchor Stuttgart is, without question, one of the very finest choirs in the world and Maestro Bernius one of the most insightful and exciting choral directors." - Daniel Taylor - Counter-tenor and Director - The Theatre of Early Music
Ottawa fans of choral music are in for a rare and exquisite treat! The Stuttgart Chamber Choir, one of the world’s most celebrated vocal ensembles, makes a much-anticipated appearance in the Ars Nova Winter Series.
The Stuttgart Chamber Choir, internationally regarded as the foremost interpreters of Bach’s choral music, brings an outstanding programme to their Ottawa concert. In addition to Bach’s great double- choir motet, Singet dem Herrn (BWV 225), the choir will display their mastery with Ligeti’s ethereal and atmospheric Lux aeterna, Frehner’s Mystical Prayers and Mendelssohn’s magnificent Te Deum.
Directed by the great Frieder Bernius, the choir has made over 80 recordings under such prominent labels as EMI and Sony. They have won over 30 international awards including Gramophone’s Choice and the Diapason d’Or, as well as 16 German Classical Music Industry Awards. The Choir’s busy touring schedule takes them to major music festivals and concert venues throughout the world. Their stop in Ottawa – part of a rare Canadian visit - will be the highlight of the capital’s choral season. Hear Bach the way he was meant to be sung!
‘No superlative is wasted in order to boast of this choir. Bernius and his Stuttgart Chamber Choir continue to set new standards in choral music.’ Time Magazine
