Ars Nova is very pleased to present its 2011 fall season. For further information about any of our up coming events just click on the links in the text below.
On Friday, September 30th, we start off our new season with two virtuoso guitarists, Manuel Minguillón and Jesús Sánchez, in a programme of music from the Spanish Renaissance. The internationally renowned duo, who together form "Delitiae Musicae",has recently released recordings of Pachelbel Vespers with the King’s Singers & Monteverdi Vespers with New College Oxford Choir. A post-concert reception will be hosted by the Embassy of Spain.
We are very pleased to have in our fall programme, Ottawa’s newest historically-informed baroque Ensemble OVO. Their October 21st concert, entitled "Avec le bon goût - Music from the time of Louis XIV and XV" will be a performance of rarely-heard works of the French Baroque.
Ars Nova and the Embassy of Spain will partner again on October 25th to present the internationally renowned pianist Moisès Fernández Via in a recital which will include works by Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti, Isaac Albéniz and the World Premiere of newly found works by Joseph Nebra.
In honour of Remembrance Day we are again very proud to present "Remembering". This
November 6th concert will be a tribute to the veterans of two World Wars, the Korean Conflict, the Afghanistan War and the Peace Keepers who have served the cause of international peace for the past half century.
On Wednesday, November 23rd we are please to present the second in our series of lectures on medieval Scotish history and literature. The Life, Times and Marvellous Works of King James VI & I. He united the crowns and brought the Stewart line to England. His court was a vibrant centre for poetry, pageantry and music. And he spearheaded what is arguably the most influential translation project in the Western world. In this 400th anniversary year of the King James Bible, discover more about this monarch, artist and true Renaissance man in a multimedia presentation by Scotticist, Dr. Chelsea Honeyman.
On December 8 be transported to a hushed, candle-lit church on Christmas Eve in the time of Spain's magnificent Golden Age. Sackbuts, flutes, recorders and singers combine in the baroque ensemble Ministriles De La Reyna, under director, Javier Martos. In partnership with the Embassy of Spain.
The Ars Nova Concert at Christmas is a highly anticipated seasonal tradition. This year is no exception with a glorious gift of music by Vivaldi and J.S. Bach. Canada’s stellar counter-tenor, Daniel Taylor, the Choir and Orchestra of the Theatre of Early Music, the incomparable cellist, Matt Haimovitz,cellist and Agnes Zsigovics, soprano, will all combine to make December 23rd a night of sublime music to kindle the heart at Christmas.

The London Handel Players with Adrian Butterfield, Violin - January 27th

Henry Purcell's immortal "Dido and Aeneas" is the fare when The Theatre of Early Music, under the direction of Daniel Taylor, returns to Ottawa on Wednesday, February 15.
Ottawa fans of choral music are in for a rare and exquisite treat! The Stuttgart Chamber Choir, one of the world’s most celebrated vocal ensembles, makes a much-anticipated appearance on Monday, March 12th.
